- Wait for approval (typically 2 to 6 weeks). Once approved, medications will be shipped to your provider's office or a designated pharmacy.

Veterans in priority groups 1-6 (including those with service-connected disabilities) receive free prescriptions. Veterans in groups 7-8 pay copays of $5 for generic and $11 for brand-name medications per 30-day supply, with an annual cap of $700.
Yes, the VA can authorize prescriptions at non-VA pharmacies through the Community Care program when VA pharmacies are not accessible. Veterans can also use VA mail-order pharmacy services.
